Junk Shop at The National Theatre!

Out of 200 young theatre companies across the UK and Ireland Junk Shop were selected to perform at the National Theatre in London (The Olivier Theatre) on 4th July 2011 as part of the National Theatre Connections Festival 2011.

The Connections Festival is the culmination of the National's year-long, nationwide festival of new writing and one of the world's largest celebrations of youth theatre.  Connections plays are specially commissioned for young performers and written by some of the best contemporary writers.

Out of the ten plays Junk Shop chose The Beauty Manifesto by Nell Lyshon and performed at Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham Arts Theatre, Bonnington Theatre and Trent Vineyard as well as at their local regional festival held at Sheffield Crucible.  Directors from the National Theatre saw the production and invited Junk Shop to take part in the Connections Festival at the National Theatre, which was held at the National's Cottesloe and Olivier theatres from 29 June to 4th July 2011, showcasing one production of each of the ten plays.

After the selection process Junk Shop had rehearsals with a director and choreographer from the National Theatre and interviews with local media.  Loreto and 2 company members were interviewed on BBC Radio Nottingham.  There has been a article in the Nottingham Evening Post and Central Tonight filmed rehearsals and interviewed Beth for a feature.

The company had a fantastic 3 day residential in London, taking in the sights, experiencing West End theatre and performing at one of the world's most renowned theatres!

The performance was incredibly well received with the applause going on forever!  There are some photos in our gallery.

There are exciting times ahead at Junk Shop!  We will be performing our current projects in October 2012 then rehearsals will start for Connections 2013.

There will be a FREE TASTER SESSION on Sunday 2nd September for people interested in joining Junk Shop.  Places are limited so please email info@junkshoptheatre.com to book.
